The Science of Gratitude
A study led by psychologist and educator Martin Seligman – famous for studying positive psychology – found a one-time act of thoughtful gratitude produced an immediate 10 percent increase in happiness and 35 percent reduction in depressive symptoms.
‘’Happiness is not about having more; it’s about appreciating what you already have.’’
– Dr Martin Seligman
Seligman also found that the effects diminished within 3-6 months so adopting a habit and routine of practicing gratitude can help maintain the positive benefits versus a one-off effort.
Make a plan to build practicing gratitude into your life – whether it’s daily, weekly, monthly or quarterly – the benefits are tanglible and positive for you and the people around you.
